Happy Birthday, Kamalhassan
Kamalhassan celebrated his 55th birthday (7 Nov 2009) with a quiet dinner at home with his close friend (former actress) Gouthami and his children.
Having completed 50 years in the film industry on 14 August this year, there simply are not enough superlatives to describe this perfectionist who is always striving to improve and innovate.
Even Prabhu said that Kamalhassan was the only acting heir to the great Sivaji Ganesan, having achieved so many milestones in his 50-year career in the film industry - a career that began at the tender age of 5 with AVM’s Kallathoor Kanaamma.
Have you ever tried to compile a list of Kamalhassan’s TOP 5 films?? It would be extremely difficult to limit the list to 5 as he has excelled with so many roles through the years. Who can forget his magical presence in Melnaatu Marumagall in 1976 or his chilling personality in Sigappu Rojakkall. One can only consider in awe his performances in films like Padhinaaru Vayadhiniley, Moondraam Pirai, Naayagan and Devar Magan. Can one even imagine another actor playing the lead role in Anbe Sivam or delighting us with comedies like Thenaali, Avvai Shanmugi and (my favourite) Panja Thanthiram?
His screenplay in Dasavatharam must rate as one of Tamil cinema’s best and his acting matched all expectations.
Kamalhassan’s latest film, Unnai Pol Oruvan, has proved to his critics that there is a lot more talent waiting to be unearthed.
Fans are now eagerly awaiting the commencement of a project with Anjaathey-fame Mysskin, rumoured to be a historical epic.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAMAL SIR. Tamil Cinema stands tall because of people like you!
